I saw their were no adds here so I wanted everyone to know how wonderful a place this is. It is quite unassuming from the outside, and the inside is very retro 50′s, but the people here are great. Dr. McLeod is keeping the family business going (his father was a vet there previously) and he is doing a mighty fine job. I moved here to Austin about 4 years ago and stumbled upon this place and have been here ever since.

What I like best about this place is that:
1. The vet has been around a long time and has seen it all.
2. It is unpretentious.
3. He will treat exactly what you dog needs and not try and over test to
try and squeeze extra coin out of you.
4. He will get it right the first time.

Bottom line: This is an old school vet in every way and a great place to take your dog.

AAC is the absolute best for emergency care!  My small mutt was mauled and bitten in the chest by a much bigger dog at 11:00 on Saturday and immediately took her to AAC.  They did an incredible job…from the front office to the techs to the vets; exam, operative, and post-op care,  it was a great experience in a bad situation.   It’s awesome to have such a high quality emergency clinic in the heart of Austin and while I hope never have to go back there again for emergency care but would highly recommend them to anyone who does.

Ian really helped me out to get my dog on the road to recovery right away. He definitely saved my sanity!

I’m so glad I found Austin Animal Clinic! It’s only 2 blocks from my house, but I guess I never paid attention until I adopted a dog. Then my newly adopted dog got diarrhea. A week into the situation, none of my internet-researched home remedies were helping and I was weary. I’m sure my dog was, too! At my wit’s end, I saw the Austin Animal Clinic sign as I was driving home – ah ha!

I called on a Saturday morning to see if they were open. They were! I could tell immediately on the phone they were concerned with helping their customers and straightforward.

I especially appreciated there weren’t any extraneous expenses to run up the bill total. I’m so grateful to find a laid back, no-nonsense, and unpretentious vet so close to my house!

I took my puppy here for a wellness check, shots, and the initial visit on a dislocated hip.

Overall, the people are very nice and seem competent.  The one complaint I’ve had was a veterinarian who felt my dog’s stomach and asserted that her tummy indicated she had worms.  We told her she had been given an over the counter de-wormer, but she dismissed the over-the-counter stuff and ordered a fecal sample which cost $30-$40 and came out negative.  In retrospect, I probably should have also volunteered that my puppy had just eaten prior to the visit, but I would think the vet would’ve asked if that was a consideration.

Still, overall it’s been a positive experience with this place and one slightly arrogant/overcautious vet (out of several) isn’t enough to deter me.

Update – Holly had her surgery and not only was the final bill over 400 less than Banfield quoted, the results were phenomenal.  The issue with her tumor was the location (right near her left nostril) and the size (about 1 inch in diameter).  This meant that she would possibly have a cleft lip post op.  Instead Dr. McLeod thought up an ingenious procedure that resulted in no cleft lip at all.  She looks like nothing happened!  The cost of the surgery included her teeth scraping (which he even kindly reduced due to the low number of teeth he needed to work on) and sending her tumor out for histology analysis to determine the grade.of her tumor.

In short, this is the best vet that I have ever been to.  I brought my other pug in today (who is normally very skiddish and terrified of all strangers).  She was the calmest I have ever seen her.  The entire staff at the clinic just has this zen attitude that I think the animals really pick up on.  I hope Dr. McLeod never ever retires!

Absolutely amazing visit.  I went to 5 vets and they all gave me outrageous quotes, anywhere from $150-$400 dollars.  Then I walked into Austin Animal Clinic and the vet tech gave me great advice and told me to walk-in the next day and the vet would fix my dog up right away.

I called, made an appointment and was seen immediately.  The vet was amazing with my dog and easily resolved my pet’s problem.  Since it took all of 8 minutes for the procedure he gave me a discounted rate and sent me on my way.

Such wonderful people here.  A great place for any pet owners out there!

I phoned Austin Animal Clinic in my search for a nearby vet that might carry some special, prescription-only dog food for which I had a written script.  Though Austin Animal Clinic is not my primary vet, the very helpful staff offered to order some — they didn’t have it in stock — and when I explained that I wanted to see if another vet might have some immediately available, Austin Animal Clinic said that they’d still order the special food to keep on hand for me in the future.  I think that’s pretty awesome service!
